Audio Dynamics is our in-house high performance loudspeaker brand, born from over 18 years of experience designing, consulting on, and integrating world-class home cinema and professional audio systems. The Matterhorn range is engineered to meet and exceed the performance targets defined by CEDIA RP-22 — the industry's benchmark recommended practice for audio system performance verification in residential installations — delivering reference-grade cinema sound in any room.
The Matterhorn 12 is the flagship front channel loudspeaker of the Matterhorn range, designed to serve as the Left, Centre, and Right (LCR) speakers in a dedicated home cinema. Built around a precision 12-inch woofer, it is engineered to consistently achieve the CEDIA RP-22 reference SPL target of 85 dB average with headroom for 105 dB peaks — the standard against which all serious cinema rooms are measured.
Its wide, controlled dispersion pattern ensures even coverage across the entire listening area, maintaining tonal consistency from the primary seat to the last row — a critical requirement for LCR performance under RP-22. The Matterhorn 12 is voiced for natural dialogue intelligibility, extended dynamic range, and the effortless headroom demanded by modern lossless audio formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X.
Designed for medium to large dedicated home cinema rooms, the Matterhorn 12 is ideally used in a matched LCR configuration, typically placed behind an acoustically transparent screen in accordance with CEDIA RP-22 screen channel placement guidelines.
The Matterhorn 8 is a versatile 8-inch loudspeaker engineered for two distinct roles within a CEDIA RP-22 compliant home cinema system. In medium to large rooms, it serves as the surround and surround back speaker, paired with the Matterhorn 12 as the front LCR array. In smaller dedicated rooms, it steps up as a full LCR front speaker in its own right — delivering the same sonic character as the Matterhorn 12 scaled appropriately to the room.
As a surround speaker, the Matterhorn 8 is positioned in accordance with CEDIA RP-22 surround placement guidelines — side surrounds at ±90° to ±110° and rear surrounds at ±135° to ±150° relative to the primary listening position. Its controlled directivity and wide dynamic range allow it to meet the RP-22 surround SPL target of 82 dB average with 102 dB peak headroom, ensuring envelopment and spatial precision that immersive formats demand.
As a front LCR in a smaller room, the Matterhorn 8 maintains the same voicing and tonal balance as the Matterhorn 12, making it the ideal choice for achieving a seamlessly matched soundstage at a more compact scale. Its efficiency and low-frequency extension pair perfectly with the Matterhorn 18S subwoofer, crossing over cleanly at the RP-22 recommended 80 Hz bass management point.
The Matterhorn 18S is a reference-grade 18-inch subwoofer engineered to anchor the low frequency foundation of a CEDIA RP-22 compliant home cinema. It reproduces the LFE (Low Frequency Effects) channel and bass-managed content from all channels with authority, accuracy, and the deep extension required to bring modern cinematic soundtracks fully to life.
CEDIA RP-22 specifies that the subwoofer system must achieve reference SPL of 95 dB at the primary listening position with headroom for 115 dB peaks at 20 Hz — one of the most demanding targets in residential audio. The Matterhorn 18S is built to meet this standard, combining its large 18-inch drive unit with a precisely tuned enclosure to deliver deep, controlled bass extension into the lowest octaves, without the overhang or loss of definition that smaller subwoofers exhibit under high excursion.
For reference performance, Audio Dynamics recommends a minimum of two Matterhorn 18S subwoofers per room. Deploying the 18S as a pair (or more) averages out room modes for even bass response across every seat, increases headroom while lowering distortion, and delivers genuine sub-20 Hz extension in-room — the deepest octave that gives modern soundtracks their visceral, physical impact.
Integrating seamlessly with the Matterhorn 12 and Matterhorn 8 at the RP-22 recommended 80 Hz crossover point, the Matterhorn 18S completes a full-range Audio Dynamics Matterhorn system. The result is a soundstage that is not just heard but physically felt — visceral, precise, and faithful to the original mastering intent of every film, soundtrack, and music recording it reproduces.
