Needs Analysis Great sound is decided long before the equipment arrives.

Put two identical systems into two different rooms, used by two different people, and you will hear two completely different results. The hardware is rarely what separates a system that merely plays from one that genuinely moves you. The difference is how deeply the project was understood before a single product was specified or a single cable was run.

That understanding is what a Needs Analysis delivers — and at Audio Dynamics, it is where every project formally begins. Over 18 years designing both reference-grade residential systems and demanding commercial installations, we have learned that the brief is what makes or breaks the result.

We start with questions most people never think to ask

A loudspeaker has no opinion about how you will use a room. We do. Before we talk about brands, budgets or boxes, we work to understand the things that actually determine whether you will love the finished system for years:

  • How the space will really be used — reference two-channel listening, immersive home cinema, live sport with friends, a hotel lobby that must sound effortless from open to close, a boardroom where every word has to land, an auditorium that must carry to the last row.
  • Who it is for, and how they listen — one critical listener, a family, a rotating crowd, or a mix of all three.
  • The content that matters to you — the films, the music, the formats and the moments you want to feel, not just hear.
  • The realities of the room and the build — dimensions, construction, sightlines, seating, interiors, and where the project sits in your wider renovation or fit-out timeline.
  • Your expectations, your constraints and your budget — defined honestly and early, so nothing is over-built, under-specified or discovered too late.

The output is not a sales quote. It is a clear, written brief that defines exactly what success sounds and looks like for your space — the document every later decision is measured against.

Why this step protects your investment

Most disappointing systems are not the result of bad equipment. They are the result of good equipment chosen for the wrong reasons, or sized for the wrong room. A rigorous needs analysis is the single most effective way to avoid expensive mistakes: it ensures the money goes where it will be heard, the system is matched to how you actually live and listen, and the performance you are promised is the performance you ultimately receive.

It is also what allows us to design to recognised international standards and recommended practices rather than guesswork — so the system is engineered to perform, not assembled and hoped over.

Where it leads

The brief we build here directly drives the two stages that follow — Acoustic Design, where we tune the room itself, and Sound System Design, where we select and integrate the loudspeakers and electronics. Get the analysis right, and everything downstream falls into place.

Let's define what great sounds like for you

Whether you're planning a private cinema, a critical listening room, or a venue that has to perform every day, it starts with one conversation. Tell us about your space and how you want to use it — we'll handle the rest, rigorously, from the very first question.
